Let’s be honest, while we may love the joy of spontaneous activities , we are creatures of habit! Routines make our lives easier, especially with children!
Some moms look forward to starting the day with a brisk workout, picking up coffee at their favorite shop as an afternoon pick-me-up, or scheduling their day by the hour.
In order to get through all we want and need in a day, both mom and baby need to get a consistent number of zzzz’s each night. And this all starts with a nighttime routine. While this is one of the most important pieces of the daily puzzle, it can also be one of the most challenging!
Below we cover some of the best tips you can easily put to practice (starting tonight) that will help both you and your baby establish a nighttime routine to last.
A bedtime routine is simply repeating the same sequence of actions each and every evening prior to bed. A bedtime routine doesn’t need to last long; as it is simply the actions themselves that serve as non-verbal cues to your baby that it’s time to go to rest and recharge.
There is no need to start a bedtime routine immediately after a baby is born. It is not only unnecessary but it can actually be overwhelming. Take these first weeks to get to know your baby and settle into the feeling that all your old routines have changed!
We recommend beginning to start a bedtime routine with your baby when she or around 6 weeks to two months of age. At this point your infant is starting to distinguish between day and night and you may have also begun to settle into other routines as well.
Below are some of the easiest activities to do with your baby (or toddler) when establishing a bedtime routine. You can choose to start with one or do a combination of any of these; just make sure that you stick with the same activities each and every evening to build consistency for you and your baby.
1. Start with a Bath
A nice warm bath before bedtime can be extremely relaxing. Add a soothing bubble bath to calm down your baby and get him or her snuggled up and ready for bed. For newborns, a bath every night might be too much on their sensitive skin, so this may be one you include every few days.
2. Gentle infant massage:
Babies love gentle rubs, and according to research, they can help relax your baby. These are perfect right after a warm bath as well.
3. Feeding with some snuggles:
Nothing is better than a full belly before bed. If baby tends to fall asleep when feeding, you can always push the feeding up before bath time.
4. Finding a good book:
Settling into a rocking chair to cuddle up and read with your favorite book and blanket is a great way to end baby’s day.
5. Play White Noise in the Background:
Using white noise, either on a machine or a phone, is another soothing technique for relaxing your baby at bedtime. Choosing sounds such as gentle ocean waves, the rain, or any other white noise for your baby is the perfect way to help your baby fall asleep.
Here are a few key pointers to making your bedtime routine work well for you and for your baby:
Establishing a bedtime routine helps babies to relax and be primed to fall asleep at bedtime. It then gives parents the time to bond with baby in a quiet and calm setting. Select activities that work best for you and your child enjoys most.
Don’t put too much pressure on yourself for nailing down a routine right away either. We hope this quick guide will help you to ultimately find the best routine for you and your baby so that bedtime is one of the easiest and most relaxing parts of your day.

Are you a mama managing multiples? If you have twins, triplets, or several kiddos all within a few years of each other, you know taking care of several little lives all at the same time can be quite an adventure.
Our team at Mum & You is built completely of moms (and a few dads!) and many of them are moms to multiples. We understand the joys and the challenges because we have been there too! Below we outline five top tips from moms who have experienced caring for multiple children under the age of five.
Mindset plays a big role when parenting, especially when managing multiples. Between different feedings, diaper changes, laundry, and to-do lists that usually span the course of days or weeks, it’s important to remember you are human. And therefore, how incredibly amazing it is that you do all you do!
As Karen, a mom to triplets indicates, “I have to remind myself over and over that I’m only one person and I’m doing a great job, even when it can be so, so easy to believe the opposite.” Karen’s little trick for a quick mindset makeover? “I leave index cards around the house with small encouragements to help me remember truths about who I am.”
We know, how hard it is to ask for help. We read all the books, we prepare as much as we can, but still, we can’t always do it all.
Courtney, a mom of three, recognized she was in trouble when she nearly collapsed from exhaustion and a searing mastitis infection shortly after her daughter was born. “If I had simply asked for help, I would’ve recognized the need for rest and would’ve listened to my body before it was too late. I was hospitalized before I knew it and it all could’ve been avoided. I should’ve asked for support”.
Try daily mental and psychical check-ins (use an index card or too!) Ask yourself, or a friend, if what you are feeling is normal for you or if you need to give yourself time to recuperate by asking for a helping hand.
The phrase “make time for you” has never held such importance as when you become a mom. Now that you have multiples, this phrase is now your daily mantra.
Making space for you is a key part to maintaining not only your physical and mental health but also your relationships. You are able to give your best self to others when you feel your best.
This doesn’t mean you need to hit the spa or go out for a night on the town each week (although those ideas are perfect as well). Ask a family member or a friend to come over to give you a few hours each day to go for a walk, a run, do some yoga, read a book or write in your journal. Any activity that helps you to connect back to you is important.
Below are a few quick tips for ensuring you get the most out of your “you” time:
What is one of the major benefits of being a mama in this day and age? Online shopping! Not having to worry about moving yourself and your little ones out the door to shop for diapers or tonight’s dinner is an amazing advantage that e-commerce has brought to our generation.
Take full advantage of online shopping by doubling down on subscriptions that automatically renew. Mum & You eco-friendly diaper and wipe subscriptions offer the best solution for moms of multiples.
We offer free delivery without the worry of being tied into a subscription. Moms can schedule the frequency of delivery and can cancel, skip or pause at any time! The best part: you’ll never run out of diapers or any other necessities again!
Mealtime doesn’t have to be a source of stress. As moms, we understand how fast the days move and how quickly those mealtimes sneak up on you.
If you can find a couple of hours one day to prep for the rest of the week, either by making something everyone loves that can last for a couple of days, or pre-cutting healthy grab-and-go snacks, it will make mealtime feel a lot less stressful.
We also can’t say enough about slow cookers!
Pop it all in the pot and set it for when you are scheduled to eat and go about your day.
Feeling a bit stir crazy but nervous about venturing out with your crew? We completely understand. With multiple little ones in tow, moving out the door takes on a whole new meaning.
Wrangling diaper bags, car seats, snacks, wipes, and more, it can take nearly an hour before you’re ready to put the car into “drive”. Thankfully, we have you covered on this one too. Here are some quick tips for getting out of the house with multiples:
One great idea from Carrie, a mom of three, is investing in two diaper bags. She recommends keeping one fully stocked diaper bag in the car at all times.
From diapers and wipes to changes of clothing, snacks, toys, and even hand sanitizer, having a diaper bag ready prior to your adventure out will save your sanity.
Aside from feedings, synchronizing nap times is one of those essential pieces to managing multiples. Don’t get us wrong, we completely understand the early days of the “newborn haze” and while planning naptimes during this phase is probably the farthest thing from your mind, you’ll want to start planning how to get the little ones on the same sleep schedule.
As the babies (and you) grow more into a routine, it’s important to notice when your little ones start to get tired. Establishing a daily routine so they start to associate certain activities with naptime is one of the easiest ways to get your babies on the same schedule.
While every family is different, here is a potential morning schedule that might work well for you and your newborns or infants up through 6 months of age.
600 a.m: morning feeding
7:00 a.m. getting dressed, washing up, playtime, diaper changing feeding
8:30 a.m: diaper change, go for a walk in the stroller
8:45: a.m: possible feeding, read a story
9:00: a.m: naptime
These times will vary of course but remember: it’s not so much the timing but rather the activities that matter in this situation.
The sooner you establish a routine, the quicker your littles ones will start eating and sleeping on the same schedule.
Having multiples can be a rollercoaster. Establishing routines and schedules that work for your family is important not only for your health and wellness but for your little ones as well.
From preparing meals ahead of time to asking for help and so much more, these quick tips will help you to take back your day and help you to enjoy all the little moments ahead.
Fall is here and with the changing of the seasons brings busy school schedules and new routines.
Between new fall clothes and shoes, school supplies (for digital and/or in-person learning), materials for new hobbies, and extra-curricular, like sports equipment, art supplies, and more, kids require a lot of stuff!
Rather than just ordering everything on Amazon in one fell-swoop and accumulating not only all things but lots of additional packing and waste, we like to explore more eco-friendly ways to jump into the school year that not only benefit the environment but are healthier options for our kids as well.
Thankfully it’s easier than ever to find kid-friendly, simple ways to reduce waste and even save money this back-to-school season.
Below we outline some quick ideas you and the whole family can easily implement to start living a more sustainable lifestyle this fall:
Whether your kids are going to be heading to a school cafeteria or right down to your kitchen table for lunch and snacks, planning ahead will always help you make eco-friendly food decisions.
If you are getting ready to pack snacks and lunches for the little ones on the go, selecting eco-friendly packaging keeps plastics and chemicals away.
Here are some great eco-friendly alternatives to plastics that are much better for your family and the environment. for:
Eating at home? Consider wrapping up those leftovers from lunch for snacks the next day! Toddler tummies tend to fill quickly so you can easily save time, money, and reduce food waste by extending a meal or two.
Did you know that plastic bottles and straws are two of the top polluters in our oceans? Ditch the plastic this year and trade them in for reusable, eco-friendly bottles instead.
Not only will these bottles keep your little ones hydrated and away from plastics, but they also play a huge role in putting the stop on waste created using millions of plastic straws and water bottles each day.
Reusable, non-toxic, and plastic-free, below are a few water bottles we love:
Expect that a couple of these will be left on the bus or at the park so buying two or four of them at the beginning of the year will save you time if one gets lost.
Aside from lowering food waste and reducing plastics in your little one’s diet, there are other everyday items you can use to protect both your family and the environment.
Biodegradable wipes are a great way to reduce waste and keep your little’s hands protected from constant exposure to harsh soaps and chemicals.
Using wipes in-between washes can help to curb dry skin while staying comfortable and clean in the process.
Whether you’re packing diapers, lunches or both, using biodegradable wipes is the perfect solution for sticky hands and faces after playtime!
Pack a couple in your kid’s lunch box (in a reusable snack bag!) for those inevitable spills. This not only helps protect the environment but will also keep gentle products within reach when you’re not there.
Eco-Friendly Idea: Donate a box of biodegradable wipes to your local preschool as a way to help reduce waste at your child’s school!
Hands on learning is an important part of a child’s development at any age. Throughout your little one’s lifetime you’ll go through your fair share of craft supplies.
From holiday crafts to birthday parties and so much more, getting into the habit of reusing materials around the house for craft time will save you money and protect the environment.
Collecting and reusing household items, like milk cartons, egg containers, packaging from things delivered to you, and really anything that has an interesting shape or texture.
I am sure you, like us, have had a birthday or holiday, where you go for the big exciting gift, and your child is more excited about the box or bubble wrap!
These make great additions to your little one’s learning projects and help them to think outside the box when they are looking to create!
This kid-friendly way to reduce waste this school year will not only protect the environment but save you time, money and help to keep your little ones busy for hours.
You could even consider organizing an eco-friendly craft supply drive at your child’s preschool to help spread environmental awareness.
Like with most things, if you start introducing the importance of sustainability at a very young age, it will become a natural part of their daily lives. Start with something easy like recycling. Point out what different objects in the home are made of (i.e. cardboard versus plastic) and how they can be recycled or reused.
Creating crafts with a variety of natural materials, like these ideas below, is another way to make the concept of environmentally friendly living more hands-on for little ones.
Go on a walk together to collect some materials for your craft project and point out the differences between what is made in nature versus what isn’t.
This is a great way to instill awareness in even the youngest of enviro-conscious minds. Once you have your goodies, you can:
Quick Eco-Friendly Kid Idea: Start any one of these amazingly eco-friendly waste-free craft ideas with a nature scavenger hunt. Your little ones will love collecting items to create crafts and decorate with.
From reusing to recycling it's now easier than ever to find kid-friendly ways to reduce waste this school year.
Living a more sustainable lifestyle begins with just a few simple steps. With the help of high-performing eco-friendly products, we can begin protecting our environment for future generations now.
From deep dives on how to alleviate swelling and stretch marks to baby poop, and, of course, the best diaper brands, there are just some discussions only moms can chime in on. Call it a support circle, a network, a mommy minute, or a mommy playgroup; we all need them.
So how do you go about finding your own? Here are our recommendations for establishing your mom community, whether you’re a new mom or a seasoned professional.
Local mom groups are one of the best ways to connect with other parents conveniently and consistently.
Thankfully, there are a number of online resources that direct you to all types of mom support circles. Here are some you can dive right into!
Virtual support groups offer a whole new set of options for connecting with pals digitally.
Facebook groups are widely popular (there is basically a group for everything mom you can think of) and there are many local groups that provide the opportunity to turn virtual friends into live connections.
Instagram accounts that cater to mamas are another fun way to connect with and find moms. Aside from Facebook and Instagram, here are other online communities created to support moms that you can join.
For some new moms, connecting with other moms online isn’t the best fit. Moms can struggle with postpartum depression or newfound feelings of “mommy guilt”.
This particular cocktail of emotions can make opening up and connecting with strangers online feel a bit awkward or even exhausting.
But finding your mom’s support group won’t necessarily have the name “mom support group” in it. Just being willing to show up to group events, like story time at the local library, and open to connecting with others can create lasting bonds beginning with shared experiences.
So if the online scene isn’t something that you want or feel ready to dive into, there are other options.
Sign up for story time at your local library, a mommy and me music group, gymnastics classes, or playgroups are great ways to connect weekly with other moms.
If you haven’t found a support group that you connect with, and you know other moms (or one mom who knows other moms) then why not start one of your very own?
Whether it’s just you and a close friend or a whole group of moms, creating your own support group gives you full autonomy.
Other benefits to starting your own group include the potential to have your kids on scheduled playdates (bonus!). This gives both you and your child a chance to play and connect with others.
Organizing your very own mommy support group doesn’t take too much coordination either. Simply decide what works best for you and change up the location here and there.
Here are some other ideas to consider when creating up your own mom support group:
As your child grows and develops, you’ll find that your needs for support will change too. Just as your circle of friends may have shifted through the years, your group will grow and move.
It’s important to remember why you started meeting with this crew of moms to begin with and if it’s time to move in another direction, you should do so.
Mom circles should be a space where you can unwind, reconnect and reassure yourself and other mommas.
For us mommas at Mum & You, mom support circles were a major pillar to the balance of all things motherhood. From getting those important “insider mom tips” (like finding the best eco-friendly baby products) to having no-nonsense, nonjudgmental conversations on breastfeeding, mom groups provide confidence, connection, laughter, and an essential sounding board for when you need it most.

Does self-care look a little 10 minutes of Netflix on good days? If you’re feeling strapped for time and a bit overwhelmed, know that you're not alone and that there are ways to beat mama-overwhelm.
As busy moms, we all know about the importance of self-care because we know how it feels when we don’t have it! We also know how easy it is to lose ourselves while focusing on all the daily details and development of raising babies (we’re growing people over here–not an easy feat!).
So it’s no wonder that between play dates, doctor check-ups, nutrition, and mental and physical development, that we actually score quite low in the “self-care” department (who has time to go for a run or do yoga?).
However, self-care is a necessity; not an indulgence which is why we’ve covered over 5 of the best self-care tips that we think even the busiest of moms can do each day.
We’ve all heard the phrase “self-care” (it’s all over Instagram, right?) but for some reason, we overcomplicate it.
We tend to place boundaries on what “real” self-care looks like: activities with unrealistic time frames and overly priced spa treatments. But let’s get our facts straight and start by defining the phrase “self-care”.
Self-care is defined as, “the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s health... “the practice of taking an active role in one’s own well-being and happiness.” source: Oxford Languages
Recognizing the need for daily self-care and then taking intentional action to take care of yourself can not only improve your overall mood but can also help to release stress, anxiety, and depression.
So what might self-care look like? Self-care is a personal choice and is exactly what you define it to be.
That means self-care for your group of friends could be escaping to the city for the day; but for you, it could be sitting in the sun with your favorite book plus a glass of wine.
Whatever actions you define self-care to be just know that those are the perfect choices for you.
That's why we’ve taken the time to simplify the self-care routine and created this list of over 5 self-care ideas that can jumpstart your daily routine for checking in with the person that makes it all happen: you.
Timing is everything as a new parent. You’ve probably already heard the “sleep when the baby sleeps” line and while this is great (exhaustion is no laughing matter), remember, that when baby sleeps you don’t have to do “all the other things”.
Aside from catching up on housework and the “Gram,” nap time is the perfect opportunity to slip in your own bit of self care: even if you can’t get out of the house. Put the dishes aside and put yourself first.
You’ll feel rejuvenated and ready to take on anything else that comes your way after putting you first.
Here are some ways to give yourself a mini-break while babe takes one of his or her own:
From stretching and pulling to rough patches and rashes, our skin has been through a myriad of changes since growing our little miracles.
While getting out for a full-fledged facial may not be on the daily agenda, you’ll be happy to know that all you need is 60 seconds each day to get a natural skincare routine that will have your face feeling like it just stepped out of the spa.
Mum and You’s SOS Time Skincare Bundle is the perfect way to take care of your face and your skin each day–minus the hours and expense of a spa.
Here are some benefits to this amazingly easy skincare bundle:

Self-care isn’t just about being with “yourself.” Going out for a night on the town or a brunch with your friends is essential for new and veteran moms alike. Pick a new spot and enjoy spending time reconnecting with friends that you haven't seen in awhile.
You can even make your outings a weekly or bi-weekly event, changing up where you venture out to each time.
Being able to share experiences or chat about something else other than the kiddos is an important part of taking care of your mental well-being as it helps you to destress and recharge in a different way.
There’s no doubt about it, moving your body on a daily basis improves your physical, emotional, and mental health. Whether it’s a bit of yoga mixed with a walk or you enjoy going for a run, start by incorporating some type of movement in your day.
If you’re an avid gym-goer but haven’t been able to get in your regular sessions, sign up for a free online class to get your body going.
There are many online workouts that are timed perfectly for moms with busy schedules like these from Fit Pregnancy Club. They have a variety of workouts for everyone including a prenatal and postnatal fitness hub which we love.
Mom circles aren’t to be confused with “friends” although some moms in your circle might overlap into this category. Mom circles or communities are those sacred niches of new-found friends that share a common bond through motherhood.
Joelle Wisler at Scary Mommy best described this circle as “A friendship bubble in which all the members have the ability to clean snot from a moving target with nothing but a sandwich wrapper and a dream”.
Of course, if you’ve found a solid mom-niche of your own already, you’ll know to grab this wipes subscription and so you’ll never need a sandwich wrapper again (no judgment either way).
Whether you love to cook, bake, or draw, getting into your own creative space (minus the finger paints) is a great way to explore personal passions and relieve stress. Rediscover your love for crafting, create home decor for your favorite room in your house, or take it a step further by creating and selling your work on a platform like Etsy! Whatever you decide to do, just make it something you find easy, enjoyable, and that it’s purely for you.
Self-care needs to be prioritized daily and not fantasized about nightly. Whether it’s choosing to step outside for 20 minutes of fresh air, go for a run or sign up online for a free fitness challenge, you define self-care as anything that makes you feel good that day or at that very moment.
The most important thing to remember about self-care is that you do it. What have you done today to take care of you?

Whether your little one loves animals, Disney characters, or trains, choosing a theme before planning a birthday party can help you account for a lot of the little details.

Deciding where to have your little one’s birthday party means many different things. Home-based birthday parties are wonderfully intimate but also require extensive planning for mom.
Destination birthdays are a bit easier for planning purposes and can take some of the stress off your plate, but also can get costly depending on where you choose to have the party.
Here are a few things you won’t want to miss when planning the perfect party:
When it comes to deciding on a date for your little one’s celebration, you can choose to have the party before or after their official big day. Some families decide on having two parties to celebrate the big day and others prefer to have an intimate celebration on the child’s actual birthday with just immediate family members.
Decide what feels best for you and your family when it comes down to the actual date of the party. Depending on your child (and on your guest list), you’ll want to avoid a few birthday party disasters (cue the over-tired guest of honor) and this checklist will help you to do just that:
Whatever date and time you decide, make sure it’s the best fit for you and your family. Keep in mind who the celebration is really for and then everything will fall into place from there.
Deciding on whether you want to include your little one’s daycare or preschool friends at your party really depends on your preference and who you know. If it’s just a few family members, then having a house filled with kids may not be something you’ll need to prep for.
Depending on your child’s age, less is usually more. Little ones tend to get overwhelmed easily so it might be best to invite just a few kids that you know your child connects with or just stick with family. If you are inviting kids, be sure to prep for the ages of the children coming. Here are some ways you can prep for kids of all ages at your little one’s birthday party:
Everyone loves party food and we bet your little one is no exception! Depending on the time and length of your party, you’ll need to have some guest of honor favorites as well as food for your guestlist planned ahead of time.
From kid-friendly snacks to full course brunches and lunches, deciding on food will greatly depend on your guests and how long they stay. If your child is a little bit older, you might want to center the menu around your child’s favorite snacks.
Party favors are a great way to say “thank you” to guests and can compliment your entire theme. While traditional goodie bags include candy and plastic toys, there are now many other adorable favor options that won’t send the kids on a sugary spiral or break the bank.
Below we’ve listed a few kid-friendly (and parent-approved) favors that will last long enough for everyone to enjoy (minus the sugar rush).
Aside from these themed favorites, you can check out Etsy for more creative party favor ideas that cover kids of all ages!
Birthday parties are a wonderful way to celebrate your little one’s big milestone. Turning another year older means the beginning of new stages and new adventures for your little one and for you! If you were to ask any mom-to-be, baby showers are an essential part of prepping for baby. Aside from having a day that celebrates baby, showers are the perfect way for the mom-to-be to relax and be completely doted on by family and friends. So it's no wonder why hosting a shower takes some serious planning and preparation.
From venue to gift ideas to the guest list and shower favors, there are many things to consider when planning the perfect party for the mama to be.
Thankfully, we've covered everything. Below we have your go to playbook for hosting a shin-dig that takes the cake.
When planning a baby shower, you’ll want to give the mom-to-be plenty of time before the baby arrives to organize the gifts. Depending on individual circumstances, you'll want to consider having the baby shower around her eighth month of pregnancy.
This will give the parents-to-be plenty of time to organize everything and decide what they really need before the little one arrives.
Be certain to check in with the mama-to-be prior to setting any dates to ensure that it works for her as well. Every pregnancy is different and she may ask for a shower earlier or even after the baby arrives!
When selecting a spot to hold your baby shower, you’ll want to think about the time of year, how many guests will be attending, and distance.
Having the baby shower in a more intimate space such as your backyard or living room will eliminate the need to locate and reserve a space ahead of time. You’ll also save money on needing to pay a rental fee.
However, if you have a larger guest list and don’t want to worry about setting up, catering and cleaning, then a banquet hall or a restaurant is the perfect spot.
Creating the guest list is extremely important. There's a lot to consider when deciding who will come to the shower. Here are some things you should consider when deciding on who should attend the big day:
Choosing a fun theme for your baby shower will make all the other little details easier (and so much more fun) to organize! Fun theme ideas to get you started include:
If the mom-to-be doesn’t care for a particular theme, you can always use design elements and colors to create a cohesive look. Designs such as polka dots or chevron lines mixed with colors that mom loves can easily be incorporated in all of your decor.
You’ll want to give yourself plenty of time with this detail as invitations take time to print and then you’ll need time to address them and mail them out. Select your invitations about 12 weeks before the actual shower. This gives plenty of time to have them printed and delivered to you.
If you have a theme in mind, you can carry that right through to the invitations.
Be sure to send the invitations out at least 4-6 weeks in advance of the shower to give everyone enough time to purchase gifts.
Here are a few sites where you can find adorable ideas for invites:
Another great way to ensure that the expectant parents get exactly what they need is to ask guests to bring a particular item along to the shower with them. Touch base with the expecting couple to see if there is anything in particular they will need.
Here are some ideas:
Most expectant parents have baby registries or some type of gift list carefully chosen ahead of time. Moving between the registry and diverting off for a few items that you know mom will love, is a great way to find a happy medium.
After all, many moms often register for things for their baby, but many forget that they, too, will need their own postpartum care items. Here’s a few baby shower gift ideas that mama will really love:
There’s nothing better for a new mom than knowing you’re covered when it comes to clothing for the seasons that lie ahead.
Top that off with some great literature for baby and you’ve got the perfect goto gift that keeps giving each and every season.
One new trend popping up at baby showers is unwrapped gifts. The host or hostess simply requests on the invitation that all gifts remain unwrapped to give the parents the chance to visit and hang out more at the party.
Of course, you’re going to want to check in with the guest of honor about this detail as she may enjoy unwrapping her gifts!
If the parents-to-be agree that they prefer not to unwrap gifts at their shower, there are many unique ways guests can present their gifts on the big day.
Guests can create baskets, hampers, gifts wrapped in diapers or simple bows to decorate the gifts they bring instead of wrapping them!
Baby shower favors are the perfect way to say “thank you” to guests and send everyone off with a memorable gift from the day.
To get ahead of the game, you'll want to have these chosen, delivered and set to roll out the guests about 3-4 weeks prior to the event.
Focusing the baby shower favors around a particular theme is both easy and fun. Here are a few themed ideas to highlight your guest of honor's special day:
Whether you’re hosting the shower at home or have a commercial venue picked out, you’ll need a “head count” in order to plan food, favors, seating and all the general setup.
Get a handle on the exact guest count about two weeks out to alleviate any last minute stress about having enough space for guests. You can also:
You can also put in calls to those guests who haven’t RSVP’d to try to get a more accurate head count.
Creating a parent play-list is a great way to liven up the party and relax the mood. You can easily put together a playlist using your phone and play it on a portable speaker during the shower.
Check with the parents-to-be for a playlist that you can create a week or two before the event so that it can be played the entire time!
From invitations to favors and everything in between, creating a meaningful and memorable baby shower takes time and planning.
Either way, no matter how simple or elaborate you go, using our baby shower planning guide will ensure that both parents and baby are celebrated in the most cherished way.

From diaper bag to suitcase, we have you covered so you can start your getaway!
When you’re traveling, you need to be prepared for many little surprises:
Spit up...surprise!
Yogurt taking flight out of your toddler's little hands... and all over your car...surprise!
Scared to use the bathroom on the plane...surprise!
Starving kids plus ZERO in-flight food...surprise!
Below is a checklist of those go-to diaper bag (or carry on bag) essentials that need to be easily accessible--whether you’re traveling by car or by plane:
Even if it’s just a weekend getaway, you’ll want to spend your time enjoying your holiday rather than scrambling to find a store that carries wipes, diapers or that specific snack your baby craves when upset.
Here’s your go-to list of what to pack in your suitcase:
Favorite Activity Books and Toys
Grabbing some of your baby's favorite books and toys from home are must-haves when traveling. Toss in a few new eco-friendly options to keep everyone entertained is even better! Below are two eco-friendly stores that feature amazing toys so you can easily check this item off your packing list!
Meal time:
Planning on eating out? Make mealtime at restaurants easier by remembering to pack these essential items:
Car Seats:
Even if you’re not traveling by car, you’ll want to have your car seat on hand in case you decide to do some exploring.
Stroller or Sling:
Depending on where you’re traveling, you might want to consider whether a stroller or a sling makes the most sense.! Both might be necessary but to alleviate overpacking consider the following: :
If you’re traveling through an airport, anticipate waiting in long lines, or are planning a trip to a city, a stroller is always convenient for longer time periods.
A sling is great if you have babies or smaller kids and you’re out and about for a short period of time.
Headphones for you or older kiddos
Whether you’re traveling by plane or car, headphones are great for kids who might love to listen to audio books or kids music.
Napping kids? Grab headphones for yourself too! You can take a few minutes to catch up on some reading or a movie without disturbing your littles.
Favorite blankets:
There’s nothing more comforting than a soft, cozy blanket. Grab some blankets or one-piece snuggies that your baby is used to sleeping with at home to make the transition over the holiday easier.
This ultimate packing list for traveling with baby will make your trip comfortable and so much more enjoyable.
By making small preparations ahead of time (think stockpiling on diapers and wipes through easy subscriptions) and using this packing checklist, you’ll guarantee that you don’t under or overpack and that your time away with family is spent relaxing.

Sore or cracked nipples? If you’re breastfeeding or expressing your milk, you may get sore or cracked nipples at one point or another. Although babies are only small, they can sometimes cause some nipple pain with their constant feeding demands.Tips on soothing sore nipples:
Whether you’ve got cracked, sore or tender nipples, thankfully there are some things you can try to relieve the symptoms. We spoke to leading dermatologist Dr. Lian Mack to find out more about caring for this delicate area.
'Remember, no stressing it mama: Breastfeeding is a learning process for both you and your baby'
The skin on our nipples is unique, as Dr. Lian Mack explains, “The skin on the breast and nipple area is delicate and can be easily injured. Areolar skin contains small glands called tubercles of Montgomery that secrete fluid to protect the skin and send a scent signaling the baby to latch on.
Because of the delicate nature of the tissue this area should be treated with the utmost care.” That means taking measures to reduce stress to your skin – which is not always easy when you have a hungry mouth to feed.
For many new moms, it can take some time for our bodies to get used to the on and off-latching of a feeding baby. However, whether you’re new to breastfeeding or not, it shouldn’t hurt so it’s always worth investigating whether your sore nipples are caused by something else.
Dr. Lian Mack suggests checking your baby’s latch with your midwife as sometimes nipple pain can be attributed to a tongue-tie or other abnormalities. She says: “Make sure your baby latches to the breast correctly. I sought the help of a lactation consultant when I was learning to breastfeed.”
Breastfeeding is absolutely a learning process for both you and your baby, so don’t get disheartened if it takes a little while to get to grips with. Julia is mom to six-month old Nellie, she says that when she was first breastfeeding her nipples became unbearably sore.
“The only relief was putting cold cabbage leaves in my bra. Even taking a warm shower was very uncomfortable – it took a while to figure out what I could tolerate and I eventually learnt my Nellie’s latch was being affected by a tongue tie.”
If you’re ever concerned, it’s always best to ask a midwife, health visitor or doctor for help.
What if you could help to stop sore or cracked nipples from starting to begin with? Prevention is better than a cure and most breastfeeding or expressing moms will benefit from using a safe product that supports the skin in this sensitive area. As a new mom herself, Dr. Lian Mack says, “I use Mum & You’s Hands Off Nipple Saviour Spray.
This product is a game-changer since I am constantly breastfeeding. This no-touch solution has helped heal and restore my sensitive, and sometimes overworked nipples.” Formulated with natural ingredients, such as aloe vera and wheatgerm oil, this amazing nipple spray helps to repair and heal sore skin.Cool Down:
If your sore nipples feel as though they’re on fire, the discomfort can be calmed by using cold compresses. Kristen, mum of three-month-old Anouk says, “I keep hydrogel pads in the fridge and use them after breastfeeding – the coolness is lovely and soothing.”
Another way to give your nipples a break is to simply expose them to the air. Leila says,“When I’m breastfeeding my son Jude at home I tend to leave my bra off completely for a little while after a feed. It feels great not to have any pressure or fabric on the area.”
It’s a common experience to come up against challenges with breastfeeding as mum of one, Shannon, can attest to. “Breastfeeding my daughter was something I was intent on doing but I found it very difficult with such sore nipples.
The thought of not being able to breastfeed made me feel quite low.” Because breastfeeding is such an intimate and personal interaction, when problems do arise, it can feel overwhelming.
Something like nipple pain can have a massive impact on your physical and emotional wellbeing; – after all – being a mom is hard enough already!
At Mum & You all our products are designed for and tested by mums because we understand the pressures and joys that motherhood brings. We are always looking to find solutions to make moms lives easier and happier – because we firmly believe that happier moms make for happier babies.
As Shannon says, “I love the idea of Mum & You’s Hands Off nipple spray because honestly, the thought of anything touching my sore nipples, other than my baby, is not ideal – a cooling and calming spray however – bring on the relief!”

Ready for the big scoop on poop? Babies go through an astounding amount of diapers: approximately 2,200- 3,000 in their first year alone. Not to mention those convenient wet wipes: you’ll need nearly 15,000 of those to keep that little baby bum clean in year one.
As you dive into the new world of baby shopping bliss, deciding which diapers and wipes to use,(plus how many!), should be top of your list.
Before you begin to fill every nook and cranny of your home with baby items, check out our guide that will save you time, money, and sanity all while ensuring you’ll never run out of the diapers you really need.
How can you ensure that you're covered for the large amounts of diapers and wipes you’ll need without overspending on the wrong size?
Use our sizing guide to ensure that you know what sizes you need when:
Here are a few other essential tips you’ll want to take into consideration before you start your diaper stockpile:
Tip # 1: Don’t focus just on newborn size.
Depending on how much your little one weighs at birth, you may be out of newborn diapers within the first month.
If your baby is 9 pounds at birth, he or she may outgrown the newborn sizing within the first couple of weeks.
Play it safe and have two packs of newborn diapers to start and ask for larger sizes from those doting friends and family members.
Tip # 2: It’s All About Weight:
Diapers are based on baby weight, NOT age. Paying attention to your baby's weight will make the difference between buying a package of diapers that's good for the next three days versus ones that last far longer. Take a close look at what your baby weighs before deciding which size to purchase and when to size up.
Tip # 3: Watch your Baby’s Growth Rate
All babies grow differently and with that, your needs for diapers will change as well.
You can always check in with more experienced friends and family members but even their perception on which size and brand will vary depending on their own baby’s needs.
Below, Mum & You has created an indispensable diaper sizing chart so you can confidently build out your diaper supply for the first year.
Use this chart below to help you best navigate the wide world of diapers:
And we mean--NEVER.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the idea that you’ll need to provide hundreds of wipes and diapers during your baby’s first year and beyond, Mum & You has the perfect solution.
Gone are the late night grocery store trips because, let’s face it, there will come a time when diapers or wipes are forgotten.
Not to mention the expense and huge inconvenience when the store doesn’t carry the brand you’ve come to know and love.
Mum & You has you and your little one covered-literally.
Our convenient eco-friendly diapers and biodegradable wipes subscriptions take away the hassle of diaper counts and wipe worries.
Delivered straight to your arms from ours, Mum & You subscriptions offer high performing, eco-friendly diapers and wipes that save you both time and money without compromise on quality, performance or the environment.
Here’s a quick breakdown on why our subscriptions are loved by parents around the globe:
Choosing The Best Eco-Friendly Diapers and Biodegradable Wipes
With approximately 3,000 diapers consumed in baby’s first year alone and nearly 385,000 babies born worldwide every day, choosing eco-friendly products that protect both baby and the environment is now more important than ever.

We’ve made sustainable living easy for parents. Our eco-friendly diapers and biodegradable wipes truly live up to Mum & You’s commitment to choosing baby products that leave your conscience as clean as your baby’s bottom!
Here’s how Mum & You’s super soft, high performance diapers maintain their eco-friendly status:
Mum & You eco-friendly diapers also feature a super absorbent core that locks moisture away from your baby’s skin and will guard against leaks for up to 12 hours. That’s a lot of protection for your little ones tush and a ton of relief for mama.
A single diaper change can use anywhere from 1 to 10 wipes. And that doesn’t account for all those other sticky situations that we find ourselves in that need wipes!
In your baby’s first year, you’ll end up using about 15,000 wipes!
Now that’s a lot of wiping.
Keeping with our commitment to minimize environmental impact while providing the very best in high performing products, Mum & You’s biodegradable wet wipes are the gold standard in sustainable living.
Here’s a breakdown on the only Green Seal Certified brand in the U.S.:
With wipes in such high demand, Mum & You biodegradable wipes ensure that today’s sticky mess won’t be a problem for tomorrow’s generation.
Becoming a parent is a beautiful journey and we want to make sure that worrying about how many diapers and wipes you have isn’t a part of it.
Using this guide to create a smart stockpile of diapers on hand not only saves you money but it also gives you the peace of mind in feeling prepared for every stage.
Mum & You can help ensure you have the diapers and wipes you need, delivered right to your doorstep. And you can rest easy knowing that you’ve purchased eco-friendly products that are kind to the planet and your baby’s bum.

Earth Day is here and it's a great reason to stop and focus on the health and well being of our environment. In fact, all it it takes are few small changes that can have a major impact.
Here at Mum & You, we make it easy for parents to live a more sustainable earth-friendly lifestyle through our commitment to the creation of eco-friendly parenting products that perform as well as they protect.
This year’s Earth Day theme is “Restore the Earth”, highlighting a continued global focus to use natural processes and innovative thinking to restore the world’s ecosystems*(*earthday.org).
We also like to think that this is the type of thinking that powers the Mum & You product team; with each of our products thoughtfully designed to leave our earth better than how we found it. And without parents having to compromise on key aspects of quality and convenience.

As parents, we’re always looking for the best products. From meal time to play time, we read labels, reviews and source all the recommendations we can get.
However, we always found that the sustainable products came with a compromise: often exchanging sustainability for comfort, performance or convenience. That’s why the Mum & You team got to work on a new solution: eco-friendly baby products and skincare that are of the highest quality.
Below are a few highlights from some of our most loved earth & baby friendly products: developed by moms for moms everywhere.
‘sustainable solutions without compromise’-Mum & You

As the only Green Seal Certified, plant-based baby wipes in the nation, Mum & You meets the highest standard for green, clean and sustainable wet wipes while continuing to provide high performing, comfortable products for babies.

That’s right...the average plastic-containing baby wipe takes about 100 years to biodegrade.
Mum & You biodegradable baby wipes combine convenience with conscious: right down to our 100% recyclable packaging. We continue to achieve what others simply cannot: eco-friendly baby products that meet the highest level of performance, sustainability, and comfort.

Mum & You bundles help you to save time and energy, which makes life easier for moms, all while ensuring our world is that much greener.
Eco-friendly baby products aren’t the only product line parents need to be wary of when it comes to protecting the environment and their health.
While we tend to ache over every ingredient that touches our baby’s skin and stomachs, many of us don’t bat an eye when it comes to the environmentally unsafe and unhealthy products we put on our own skin.
Women's skincare products play another big role in the contribution to dangerous chemicals being leached into our environment and onto our skin.
Thankfully, you don’t need to choose between natural products and effective ingredients any longer. Mum & You has created a complete skincare line that starts with naturally derived ingredients and ends with high performing results.
Here are some of the best features of the Mum & You Skincare line that your skin (and the environment) will thank you for:

Less plastic equals more green for our families and generations to come. The continued use of eco-friendly products as found in the Mum & You product line is a great way to protect our Mother Earth while providing the best for your little ones.

Creating high-performing, eco-friendly products that are safe for babies and moms, delivered right when you need them, is one of the many ways Mum & You continually lives out its mission.
But behind our exceptionally convenient eco-friendly products, stands our most important focus: the moms and babies who use them.
That is why we decided to partner with a charity that, like Mum & You, makes life easier for moms. Moms Helping Moms is a foundation that was created to ensure that no baby should ever have to go without life’s basic necessities.
A New Jersey based charity, Moms Helping Moms provides essential baby items to low income families; ensuring that their children have a safe, happy and healthy start.
Founder, Bridget Cutler describes how their small foundation has expanded: “we’ve grown into a large network of passionate, caring individuals who continuously work together to help moms, babies and young children year after year”. And their work continues to prove to be so beneficial to the families they touch each day.
‘Every subscription ensures that another family can enjoy safe, gentle, eco-friendly baby products' ~Mum & You~
In response to the COVID global pandemic, Moms Helping Moms more than doubled it’s diaper distribution number and more than tripled the number of individuals they served in 2019.
This was all made possible through the collaboration of brands and companies such as Mum & You.
In 2020, Moms Helping Moms has served 101,127 people in need including the distribution of 633, 915 diapers. By expanding their partnerships, Moms Helping Moms continues to expand their reach.
Currently there are 5.3 million children in the United States ages three or younger that live in poor or low income families*.
Having to choose between food and diapers should never need to be a decision any mom has to face.
Yet, at least 1 in 3 American families report a lack of sufficient supply of diapers to keep their infants and young children clean, dry and healthy.
As a brand who creates eco-friendly diapers and products for babies and moms everywhere, Mum & You’s partnership with Moms Helping Moms was simply meant to be.
Here’s more on why diapers for little ones are a big deal:
Diapers cannot be obtained with food stamps

The synergy between Mum & You and Moms Helping Moms has created a greater impact, one that as a brand Mum & You could only imagine.

Mum & You’s Partnership with Moms Helping Moms is vital to their organization. As the foundation indicates, partnerships grant them the ability to serve more people and pave the way for advocacy and spreading awareness of diaper need as an issue in our communities.

Struggling with heavy legs or itchy feet? Pregnancy and water retention (or fluid retention) can be a pesky and uncomfortable symptom. From puffy, swollen ankles to heavy legs and itchy feet, excess water can find plenty of ways to make pregnancy even more challenging, but fortunately, there are some things you can do to alleviate the discomfort.
Ready to give pregnancy water retention the heave-ho? Read on!
We’ve spoken to leading dermatologist, Dr. Lian Mack to learn more about why water retention causes moms to be so much trouble and what treatments or lifestyle changes can help you to prevent or manage it.
In fact, water retention in pregnancy is linked to the amount of blood circulating in your body. Dr. Lian Mack says that “in order to support the growing fetus, blood volume in pregnancy triples, so your body retains more water to support the increased blood supply.”
It’s this increase in blood supply, combined with the usual surge of pregnancy hormones and the growing pressure of your expanding uterus that can lead to swelling and that tight feeling of the skin. As Dr. Mack explains, “the return blood flow from your legs to the heart is decreased which can lead to problems such as puffy legs and ankles or swollen veins.”
To put it another way, your legs are missing out on their usual circulatory action while your body is simultaneously holding onto more water, leading to all kinds of less than desirable side effects.
Water or fluid retention as it is also known, is very common during pregnancy with as many as 80 per cent of women experiencing it in some form with most experiencing it from the latter part of the second trimester. While any mom to be can suffer from it, pregnant women who spend a lot of time standing – at work, for example – are often at a higher risk of developing water retention.
There are a few things you can try to mimimize water retention during pregnancy:
1. Drink More Water:
Drinking more liquids can actually help your body to retain less water. Staying hydrated is especially important during pregnancy and the WHO recommends pregnant women should drink between two and three litres of water a day. And all those extra trips to the loo will come in handy with this next tip…
2. Take Short Walks
Ideally you’ll walk further than back and forth to the bathroom, but the idea of taking frequent short walks can be beneficial in keeping swollen ankles under control.
3. Lift Those Legs:
Elevating your legs can help rebalance blood flow – so that means keeping them higher than your heart. It’s a great excuse to stack some cushions on the end of the sofa and binge watch Netflix. What’s not to love?
4. Compress to Impress:
Dr. Mack says wearing compression stockings can also help relieve swollen ankles and that sore feeling of heavy legs. Josie, 34, suffered from swollen ankles in pregnancy and says,“I found it best to put them on first thing in the morning as otherwise my feet and ankles would swell more as the day went by.”
5. Soothe Your Skin:
Topical products can also provide relief and comfort. Dr. Mack recommends looking for products that have anti-inflammatory ingredients like green coffee and ingredients that cause blood vessels to constrict such as cucumber, which is known to have a cooling effect on the skin.
6. Pick A Side:
Sleeping on your side can also help to reduce water retention and swelling. Ideally try to sleep on your left side as this puts less pressure on your liver and kidneys.

The truth is, after you give birth, either vaginally or by C-section your stomach is not the same. Before my first daughter was born, I was naively under the impression that my natural abdomen would bounce back in a week or two. I was pleasantly surprised by how far from reality this really was. Since our uterus expands so much to support our growing baby, and our collagen and elastin fibers tend to snap or rupture naturally it takes a good amount of time for the belly to go down post-partum. Honestly, I still felt pregnant after giving birth, both times. Right after delivery I would say the stage your belly is in is equivalent to being approximately twenty weeks pregnant.
This semi-still bloated, still pregnant belly can last for six to nine weeks, the time frame I find myself in right now. Many researchers suggest that the full true abdominal recovery can take up to 9 months!
The best advice I can give to all new mothers that have just given birth, is to embrace each stage of the recovery and own your body changes with pride. As women this is our superpower and there is no room for shame or forced quick recovery. Keep in mind, we just pushed our bodies to the extremes pregnancy and giving birth truly entails.
As I just passed my eight-week post-partum mark, I have eagerly been looking forward to starting my journey to get rid of some of my loose skin. I started adding a daily abdominal targeting routine to assist with my skin tightening, on top of full time homeschooling my 6- year-old, I am the true definition of a busy mom. Consistency is key so it’s important to be able to sneak away and take a little time for yourself to upkeep the exercise to help transform your postpartum belly and recover skin tightness.*
Another layer of my post-partum journey is, I have been really into learning about holistic ingredients that can help aid in my bounce back.
I found that Safflower Oil is becoming more and more popular amongst individuals looking to target belly fat and overall skincare. For skincare, Safflower Oil is known to relieve pain in certain skin conditions (i.e. eczema) as well as act as an anti-inflammatory and provide antioxidant benefits.
I recently added Mum & You’s Tummy Time Firming and Toning Gel to my daily routine. This particular toning gel combines both of these naturally derived ingredients that have helped me in my post-pregnancy journey.
I have been extremely pleased with the firmness the gel provides in the areas where you can most see my loose skin.
After consistent usage I am definitely feeling more confident in my stomach area, my skin looks tighter, and I love the fact that the product is 97% naturally derived. Mum & You has a line of different gels and masks that are directly targeted to moms like you and me – looking to get back to our old norm, while embracing our new norm, giving us the confidence we need as we carry motherhood on our shoulders, and empower our children to do the same.

Trying to find a Natural Skincare Routine as a new mom? If you’ve just had a baby – the chances are you’re more sleep-deprived than you’ve ever been in your life. If you’ve had kids for a while, then feeling tired is probably your version of normal – and while motherhood is a privilege and a joy, those night time interruptions and long days certainly take a toll.
Unfortunately one of the first places that exhaustion shows up is on our skin. We spoke to leading dermatologist Dr. Lian Mack to discover what changes you can expect from your skin during those post-partum weeks and much further beyond and what all mums can do to give their skin a little extra attention and TLC.
In an ideal world, you would be getting seven to nine hours of sleep per night. Not only is sleep important for our energy and concentration levels it also helps our skin to repair itself. Dr. Lian Mack explains, “While we sleep our bodies drive blood flow to the skin, which helps increase collagen production, making our skin look fresher.
After all, sleep is our body’s restorative process.” But with regular interruptions to your kip, puffy eyes, dark circles and fine lines might all start to be things you notice in the mirror.
One of the best things you can do for your skin is to prioritize as many Z’s as possible. If you have just had a baby, Dr. Lian Mack says, “Nap when your baby does,” or why not try Maytal’s hack? She says in the early days she and her partner did night shifts to allow each of them to get an unbroken block of sleep.
She says, “I recommend this to all new parents. It’s the only way we could both manage to get some deep sleep. I had to express my milk before heading to bed, so if you’re breastfeeding – make sure you get a good pump!” Those extra minutes in bed will not only restore your skin, they’ll no doubt lift your mood too.
Remember that pregnancy glow people used to say you had? After giving birth the oestrogen levels that were responsible for your glowing skin and luscious hair, start to fall and as a result you could suffer with post-partum hormonal acne. Lara says, “I had the best skin of my life during pregnancy and the worst after!” Great right?
If your kids are a little older, you may also find that your skin has lost a little vitality as the accumulation of mom life starts to show. Clay treatment masks are a great way to reclaim your radiance, but you’ll need something fast-acting because let’s face it – us mums don’t have much time to spare!
We developed our Just A Minute 60 Second Clay Mask with bentonite clay and daikon radish, making it rich in antioxidants and minerals. Bentonite clay because it’s a natural anti-inflammatory to ease hormonal acne, and daikon radish to reduce blemishes and revive your skin’s glow. Dr. Lian Mack says, “I love Mum & You because the ingredients are naturally derived, safe and effective.”
If you’ve noticed brown or dark patches on your face during or after pregnancy it’s most likely hyperpigmentation due to increased melanin levels. These patches should begin to fade after pregnancy but Dr. Lian Mack recommends avoiding direct sun exposure and wearing a high SPF every day.
This is good practice for all mums, no matter what stage of your parenting journey you’re at. Wearing a daily SPF is an effective way to maintain an even skin tone, protect your skin from sun damage and prevent the signs of aging.
Dr Lian Mack advises any busy mom to keep their skincare regime simple. Motherhood is demanding, “so be kind to yourself,” she says. Self-care is especially important on those days when it all gets too much. Ruby says, “With a toddler, a baby and a five-year-old to juggle, I get a lot of comfort in taking a few minutes to cleanse and moisturize my skin and put on a little bit of make-up – nothing fancy, just mascara and concealer. It makes me feel more in control and less neglected!” You don’t have to spend a lot of time on pampering to lift your mood.
Another way to boost your skin is to stay hydrated. Dr. Lian Mack says drinking enough water is important, especially if you’re a new mom who is breastfeeding. In any case, try to drink six to eight glasses of water a day and your skin will thank you for it.
Mom of three Stephanie says, “When I had my youngest son I bought some reusable bottles, filled them up at the start of every day and placed them all over the house in the places I knew I might find myself captive under the weight of a sleeping baby. It definitely reminded me to drink more.”
Puffy under-eye bags are your skin’s way of saying ‘help!’ Placing a cold compress on your eyes for a few minutes can improve their appearance (and feels wonderfully soothing). Cara says, “I keep an eye mask in the fridge to use whenever the opportunity strikes!”
As a team of moms, we know motherhood is as wonderful as it is overwhelming. All our products have been made with efficacy and simplicity in mind. Discover our Just A Minute Mask or browse our other mum made skincare and eco baby nappies and wipes.

Whether you call them battle scars, tiger stripes or love lines, stretch marks are the result of the magnificent work our bodies do when growing our babies.
But that’s not to say that preventing pregnancy stretch marks isn’t something most new mums-to-be think about once the excitement of the positive pregnancy test has sunk in. In fact, talking to our mummy friends, most of us are guilty of googling this pretty early on!
Of course, when we’re incubating a baby, our bodies go through some major changes, not least rapid weight gain and a changing body shape which are the main causes of stretch marks. They’re most often seen on the stomach, breasts, hips and buttocks and look like pinkish streaks that fade to white over time.
We spoke to dermatologist Dr. Lian Mack who explained that stretch marks happen when there’s a “disruption of collagen and elastin in the dermis.” Essentially this means the elastin fibres that allow our skin to stretch reach their maximum capacity and end up snapping, leaving a scar. This often happens when our stomachs stretch to accommodate our babies, leading to pregnancy stretch marks.
It’s often the case that if your mother or grandmother had stretch marks during pregnancy that you’ll also be susceptible, but it doesn’t always work that way. Dr. Mack says, “Individuals who gain weight very rapidly in the first trimester of pregnancy are at a higher risk for developing stretch marks than those who gain their weight steadily over the full three trimesters.” This is because a gradual weight gain puts less stress on the skin and allows it to stretch less abruptly.
While we can all be proud of what our bodies achieve when growing a baby bump, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to support our skin to rise to the challenge, so what can be done to prevent pregnancy stretch marks from showing up?
On a practical level there are several things that can make stretch marks less probable. It helps to start early – your first trimester is the ideal time to start putting in place new routines to keep your skin supple during and after pregnancy. We’ve swapped tips between our mummy friends and have consulted Dr. Mack for her insight to bring you our tried and trusted steps to boosting your pregnancy skin health in the fight against stripes. Image credit: Jami Garcia (@mrsjamigarcia)
First up, increase your hydration. Typically during pregnancy, you’ll want to drink more water anyway which is great because not only will that extra hydration help your baby, it’ll also make sure your skin doesn’t go thirsty. Hydrated skin equals supple skin.
"I kept a massive reusable water bottle at work during my pregnancy to remind me to drink more. I swear I spent more time in the bathroom than at my desk but my skin had never looked better!” – Jade, new mom
Dr. Mack says the sooner you start a topical moisturizing routine the better as your skin can be primed to withstand the stress of an expanding bump. She recommends moisturizing twice a day from the very beginning of pregnancy, focusing on key areas like your belly, hips, back and breasts. Twin mum Ursula recommends looking for a fast-absorbing product,
“I’d definitely advise using a gel as they sink in more quickly, which is easier to manage when you’re moisturizing a large area… in my case half my body! I also found with gels, a little goes a long way.” – Ursula, mum of twins
Dr. Mack recommends looking for collagen-boosting products that contain hyaluronic acid as this boosts skin hydration. She also advises grapeseed oil as an ingredient because of its rich linoleic acid content that can aid the treatment of stretch marks during the initial inflammatory stage.
Vitamin E has long proven effective in the fight against scars and stretch marks and the great news is this super vitamin can be found in lots of natural ingredients, such as kahai and grapeseed oil, both of which are in the formula of our Easy Tiger Stretch Mark Fighter Gel. Kahai oil, also known as Cacay Nut Oil, has some fantastic anti-inflammatory properties too.
Without a doubt, you’ll have less time for yourself once your newborn comes along, but that’s no reason for you to relax your anti-stretch mark skincare routine. In fact it’s a key time to treat your skin to some post-partum TLC as new scars are more easily treated. Dr. Mack suggests using a tailor-made product to prevent pregnancy stretch marks for at least six months post-partum.
Just the act of making time to pamper yourself a little can go a long way to making you feel like you’re getting the balance right between you the mom and you the woman. Although motherhood changes everything, let’s not forget you’ll always be you.
At Mum & You our mantra is simple: a happy mom makes for a happy baby. Every mom deserves to feel happy in her skin. That’s why we developed a midwife approved anti-stretch mark product, our Easy Tiger Stretch Mark Fighter Gel.
Made with grapeseed and kahai oil it helps reduce stretch marks and regenerate skin so it’s left looking and feeling smoothed and healthy. So no matter what pregnancy or motherhood throws at you, you can count on your skin to be ready for anything.
Fight off those stretch marks, mum! Here's how: Easy Tiger Stretch Mark Fighter Gel can be found on the Mum & You website

Let’s be frank: being a mom is a beautiful mix of learning, balance and adventure rolled into one. At Mum & You, we know that the best thing for babies is to have a mom who is fully supported and that’s where our little company was born.
We won’t try to compete with baby cuddles, that newborn smell (if we could only bottle it!), or those first giggles, but up there on the list of great moments is the realization that other moms just get it.
At Mum & You, we get that babies, (and kids!), take a lot of work, and part of that is finding the right eco-friendly products that make your life easier.
Whether it's our guilt-free compostable baby wipes or eco-friendly diapers that are delivered right to your doorstep or our pledge to donate diapers to moms in need with every subscription purchase, supporting moms will always be our goal.
The birth of Mum & You began with our founders – moms and a few dads, with one common core: a vision grounded in supporting happy, healthy moms which transcribes to happy babies.
‘supporting moms with every purchase’
From the very start of our company, Mum & You has been dedicated to supporting all moms. We do this not only through the creation of safe, gentle, eco-friendly products, but also through our commitment to donating products to moms in need.
For every purchase of a subscription, Mum & You proudly donates products to moms in need through our partnerships with Moms Helping Moms, a non-profit organization that provides low income families the essential baby items that they need to give their children a safe, happy and healthy start.
And this is why all products M&Y make are designed by moms; it’s why from day one, we pledged to give back to moms in need, and why we are a flexible employer that supports moms back into the workplace after a career break.
What’s the deal with natural, eco-friendly products and why should we use them?
From the very moment our little ones enter our world, (and perhaps before that), we naturally begin to think about the impact of chemicals and other non-natural substances in our environment.
We’re consistently committed to making this parenting adventure a bit easier.
‘motherhood should be filled with opportunity, not compromise’
Each product, from our dermatologically tested diapers made using wood pulp from certified sustainable forestry to our plastic-free wipes and natural skincare for moms has been thoughtfully created by moms (like you) for moms (like you!).
And we are so excited to share these amazing products with you and deliver them to your doorstep whenever you need them.
‘Mum & You products start with a simple question: What would make life easier?’
From baby toys to recycled strollers and baby bags, eco-friendly design and sustainability are making their way into homes at an increasing amount.
Mum & You knows that caring about children also means caring for the environment. As our children grow, we recognize the significance of preserving the environment for future generations.
In most cases, environmentally friendly products come at a compromise for parents: a compromise in either convenience, performance or baby’s comfort.
Mum & You continues to set the standard for sustainability without compromise by designing products that combine all key aspects of quality, comfort and sustainability: a commitment that proudly sets the Mum & You brand apart from others.
One example of Mum & You’s dedication to sustainability without compromise is reflected in our super soft, biodegradable baby wipes.
